This fascinating garden is set on a steep slope boasting panoramic views from Mt Dandenong to Lilydale Lake.
The owner has crafted a series of formal and informal terraces following the contours of the land. By following the pathway along the terraces, visitors travel through a series of different rooms presenting delightfully different feels. A woodland grove leads to an alpine area. Further on a screen of European and North American trees gives way to reveal ferns and ornamental grasses. Elsewhere there are delightful planting of lilacs and olives.
This is a textured garden with diverse leaf forms, including maples, magnolias, viburnums, black bamboo, and other shrubs and perennials. Recycled water from two houses as well as huge quantities of mulch and stable manure and straw combine to make this garden really thrive.
Conifers interspersed throughout the garden hint at the owner’s particular interest in this species. He has grown a wide variety – from the smallest, displayed in pots to mature pencil pines and cedars. Visitors will be able to relax and enjoy the view with refreshments on the upstairs veranda of the house.
Refreshments can be enjoyed on the verandah where visitors can enjoy the fabulous view over Lilydale.
