Alda Acres, Bittern

  • 16 Davies Road, Bittern Vic 3918 Australia (map)

Entering the garden, you are greeted with an eclectic mix of native, exotic and productive planting. A row of Cherry Ballarts thrives in the garden. In Australian indigenous culture the Cherry ballarts can represent children.

Three ‘truffle trees’ were planted about nine years ago – an English oak, a Holly oak and a Hazelnut. They were all inoculated with black Perigold truffle (Tuber melansporum). Perennial crops, fig trees, asparagus, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries, nectarines, a peach and roses surround a number of raised vegetable beds.

Some of Shelley’s mosaic birdbaths will be available for purchase. There will be native seedlings for sale from the Merricks nursery and coffee and cakes and slices will also be for sale.

Please note: The closest toilets are at the Bittern Hall and Somers foreshore.

Alda Acres is located on the lands of the Bunurong people. Open Gardens Victoria wishes to acknowledge the Traditional custodians of this land and we pay respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging.

Extra activities in the area:

  • The Coolart wetlands and Homestead

  • The Somers General store

  • The Merricks store

  • The nearby village of Balnarring

Garden Notes will be published soon
